One of the most important lessons we learn through our schooling is how to learn. Sometimes our instincts pick up these habits automatically through pattern recognition, sometimes light redirection will guide us where we need to be, and other times we need explicit instruction on how to learn. With formal training in pedagogy, assessment of the problem can lead to a path for a long term solution. Example skills to be strengthed: metacognition, time management, perspective, goal setting, organization.

In the first tier, Motivational Messages, your learner might just need to touch base with someone else who they feel can relate. It might take a few inspirational phrases, a couple funny memes, or just someone on the outside to vent to. Twice a week, I will have a brief text conversation specifically with them to help them focus their energies.

In the second tier, in addition to the above, I'll include a weekly video with some reminders of things we've discussed and with some new things to think about as we continue our growth. The video will be targeted to a variety of cognitive skills.

In the third tier, in addition to the above, I'll do weekly interviews with the student where I will ask leading questions, and then I will collaboratively prepare both short term goals and long term goals. These will be individually tailored specifically to your student in order to challenge them in their weak areas but support them enough that they can see how to become successful.

In the fourth tier, in addition to the above, I will personally create a check list of items to do for the learner early in the week (for academics, personal goals, and chores). We will collaboratively set a time schedule. I will address the learner again at the end of the week and review the check list against our time schedule and lead a reflective conversation over the reasons we hit some targets but missed others. This level is for a learner who needs more scaffolding and more direct attention before they're ready to "graduate" to only weekly interviews.
